Exclusive: new study reveals top online poker, bingo, casino brands  19/05/2009

Partypoker, 888 and Pokerstars are officially the highest-ranking poker brands online, a study of the top-ranking brands in online poker, bingo and casino seen exclusively by EGRmagazine.com has revealed.

The research by search engine marketing company Greenlight shows that the three poker and gaming giants beat rivals such as Everest, Full Tilt and Ladbrokes when poker-related terms such as ‘online poker’, ‘free poker’ and the word ‘poker’ itself are entered into search engines.

The report, which has also produced results for online casino and bingo sites, classified 287 of the most popular search terms used in the 1.6 million gambling searches made in March. It then analysed their search rankings on Google to see which websites and brands were positioned on page 1 for each term.

Partypoker came on the first page for results for 58% of the poker terms, while 888 came up for 57%, before a sharp fall to Pokerstars which came up for 40% of them.

Greenlight chief executive Warren Cowan said: “It’s page one or nothing when it comes to search engine use. A handful of sites in each vertical are doing well and everyone else is lagging behind.”

However the study revealed that the most visible site for poker-related searches is online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, which reached 64%. Pokerlistings.com and PKR.com share fourth place with 32%, and Pokerroom.com is fifth with 30%.

Sites aimed at Britons topped the list of the most visible sites, with Meccabingo leading with 61%, followed by FoxyBingo with 56%, DreamBingo with 55%, then 888 (52%) and Littlewoods (49%). Foxybingo was top site for bingo searchwords, and the only site on page one for 100% of bingo-related searches.

"In bingo, certain big names that you would expect to do well just don’t have commensurate ranking to their marketing spend,” Cowan said.

888 emerged as top casino site, reaching a jackpot 100% of  those entering casino search terms, followed by SpinPalace and WilliamHillCasino, which reached 95% and 87% respectively.
