888 is highest profile casino site with UK gamers, study shows 05/06/2009
888 is the highest profile casino website among UK web-users, a ranking of the casino brands best optimised for search engines seen exclusively seen by eGaming Review reveals.
The research by search engine optimisation (SEO) marketing company Greenlight shows that 888 was seen on the first page of results by 63% of those entering casino-related searches into Google UK in April, the last month for which reliable statistics are available. Google is the leading search engine, accounting for 90% of the total web searches made each year.
As reported on EGRmagazine.com yesterday, 888 also topped the list of poker sites, sharing first place with PartyPoker (more), but is placed just eighth when it comes to bingo (more).
SpinPalace is the second most visible casino site, appearing on the first page of results for 54% of casino-related searches. However the third most visible site for casino searches is movie site imdb.com, which was the only site other than 888 and Spinpalace to appear on the first page of results for more than half the casino searches made.
Greenlight chief executive Warren Cowan explained that this is because of the popularity of imdb’s page for the Martin Scorsese movie Casino.
“Google assumes that if you type ‘casino’ into it then that’s your focus, but it doesn’t know whether you want to play a casino game or if you are just looking for the film. Casino was a hugely popular film and that page has an enormous amount of page links, which gives it great link equity”.
After imdb came Intercasino.co.uk (43%) and Casino.com (42%). The top 20 list can be seen below.
As reported on EGRmagazine.com this week, matching results for other industry tiers showed that Partypoker and 888 are the UK’s most visible poker websites (more), while FoxyBingo is the UK’s most visible bingo website (more).

So where did this information come from on. I don't think it came from Google itself. I think the IMDB comment is a 'red herring' -- it just shows what ranking does for you. After all I bet more people are interested in Casino Royale rather than Casino.
