Chief executive Ralph Topping dropped his strongest hint yet that William Hill will be moving its telephone and internet operations offshore today, citing competitive pressures from low-tax operators such as Ireland’s Paddy Power and Gibraltar-headquartered Bwin.

Congressman Barney Frank’s bill to overturn America's Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act will now not be voted on until September.

Playtech is considering a string of acquisitions in coming months including a $500-750m deal to take over a marketing business, chief finance officer Shuki Barak said yesterday.

Legal online poker in California has come another step closer after the US state rejected an $11bn tranche of cuts designed to ease its projected $25bn budget crisis. The rejection lends support to the legalisation of intrastate poker in California as a source of tax revenue, about which a framework bill is being presented to stakeholders this week.

Asian Logic’s board has approved the company’s previously announced intention to de-list Asian Logic from London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM). The last day of trading for Asian Logic shares is 2 July.

Paddy Power’s novelty bet team has already responded to the news of the death of superstar Michael Jackson, offering 5/2 on a Jackson song as Christmas number one in the UK music charts. The Irish bookmaker is also offering odds on titles for the inevitable Prince of Pop biopic, with 'Michael' the favourite, at 4/1; 'The Lost Children' the outsider at 100/1.
