Bingo.com kicks Foxy from top slot in UK's 20 most visible bingo sites 18/08/2009
FOXYBINGO HAS lost its place as the most visible online bingo website to UK web users after being overtaken by Bingo.com, a ranking of the 20 highest profile bingo sites has revealed.
The research, produced by search marketing company Greenlight exclusively for EGR, shows that Bingo.com was visible on the first page of results in 68% of bingo-related searches made on Google.co.uk in June, the last month for which accurate data are available. Google.co.uk is by far the dominant search engine, accounting for 90% of the web searches made in Britain each year.
The results mean that Bingo.com has knocked FoxyBingo, which appeared on the first page of results in 64% of the searches, from the top slot it occupied in an identical Greenlight study conducted in April, when the two brands boasted figures of 61% and 76% respectively.
The ranking shows that search engine optimisation (SEO) for bingo sites is an increasingly competitive arena, with LittlewoodsBingo, GalaBingo and WinkBingo improving their positions at the expense of DreamBingo, which enjoyed second place in the April figures but has dropped to sixth place in the latest results with a search saturation score of 44%.
The success of the three brands’ bingo SEO strategies has also been at the expense of Gala archrival MeccaBingo, which lost its fourth place position last time to land in seventh place, appearing on the first page of results in 44% of searches, down from a 56% score in April.
A new entrant to the ranking is 888Ladies, which sits in tenth place with a 19% score, ahead of sister site 888.com, which experienced a sharp fall from eighth place in April with a 33% saturation score to 15th place this time, with just 9% saturation.
A total of 515,000 bingo-related searches were made in the period, of which the word ‘bingo’ alone accounted for almost half (48%). The phrase ‘free bingo’ was the second most popular bingo search despite being used in just 10% of the total.
As reported on EGRmagazine.com yesterday, an identical survey for the online casino market showed 888. SpinPalace and WilliamHillCasino to be the most visible casino sites.

Adam Bunn, Greenlight
“You may as well just do a single search on “bingo” and publish the results…”
That would be a different. The first problem with ranking snapshots is that they are subject to daily or even hourly ranking fluctuations, meaning that they can give a skewed perspective of who does consistently well within a sector. Secondly, even though the keyword “bingo” dominates the sector, it still represents less than half of the available volume, so doesn’t paint a full picture
Suggesting Greenlight may as well just publish a “bingo” rank report is akin to suggesting that the only keyword any bingo site should care about ranking for is “bingo”, which, with 52% (likely more – our report doesn’t look at the keyword space exhaustively) of the volume located elsewhere, is clearly not the case.
In contrast to a ranking snapshot, Greenlight’s sector reports take into account visibility throughout the quarter across a wide range of search terms, giving a better impression of how well various bingo sites are performing over time. The differences in the two approaches should be self evident to anyone doing a search for “bingo” and comparing the results with our report.

Due to the weight of the "bingo" keyword this is a fairly pointless piece of "research" - don't you think?
You may as well just do a single search on "bingo" and publish the top 10 sites and give it a title of "10 Most Visible Sites".
EGR, I hope you're not paying for this highly analytical "research".
Cheers
